Wristbands which offer the best value travel to get to the Great North Run in September have now gone on sale. Costing £6.50 they provide unlimited travel on the Metro, bus and ferry and are specially subsidised to make the day as affordable as possible.
Kim McGuinness, North East Mayor, commented: “The Great North Run is a huge day for our region when we welcome thousands upon thousands of spectators and runners from around the world. We are funding affordable and convenient travel for local people and visitors alike so you can buy one handy wristband that lets you use any Metro, Shields Ferry or bus route throughout the day.
“This is all part of making sure the Great North Run is a great experience for everyone who takes part, watches or volunteers on the day. I’ll be running again this year for local charities, so I look forward to seeing thousands of my fellow runners putting the Rover wristbands to good use.”
The wristbands can be purchased online at https://www.nexus.org.uk/greatnorthrun and will be available until 29th August. They will then be mailed out ahead of the race. A special Great North Run event ticket will also be available from all Metro ticket machines from 11th September; this is the same as the wristband just in paper form!
Helen Matthews, Commercial Director at Nexus, said: “The Great North Run Rover wristbands are ideal for anyone taking part in the event, offering unlimited travel on Metro, buses and the Shields Ferry in a no-fuss format. For runners and spectators alike, they offer flexibility and will save you time in the queue when it is really busy. If you’re a runner, then you don’t need to worry where your travel ticket is after the race.”
