More engineering works for Metrolink in August

As part of the continued investment in maintaining and improving the Manchester Metrolink another week long line closure has been announced for early August. This time the work will be taking place at Pomona and on the Eccles line which will affect trams on both the Trafford Park and Eccles lines.

The work will take place between Saturday 2nd and Sunday 10th August – running concurrently with the final week of the long-term Piccadilly Gardens work – and will see the Eccles line closed completely whilst for the Trafford Park line a reduced service will run from Wharfside. Pomona stop will also be closed.

The tram service pattern for these eight days will be:

  • Bury to Altrincham (6 minute frequency at peak times Monday-Saturday only)
  • Ashton-under-Lyne to Piccadilly
  • Etihad Campus to Piccadilly
  • Rochdale Town Centre to East Didsbury
  • Shaw & Crompton to East Didsbury (peak time Monday-Saturday only)
  • Manchester Airport to Victoria
  • The Trafford Centre to Wharfside

Trams will run every 12 minutes on each line Monday-Saturday and every 15 minutes on Sunday.

To help people continue their journeys there will be a replacement bus service from Eccles to Piccadilly via Wharfside.

Following the conclusion of these works (as well as the Piccadilly Gardens works which are also due to end Sunday 10th August) there are a few more planned works in September:

  • Friday 5th to Sunday 7th September – London Road close to Piccadilly Station meaning no trams from Piccadilly Gardens to Ashton-under-Lyne
  • Sunday 14th September – no trams through Victoria until 1000
  • Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September – work at Derker with no trams between Freehold and Rochdale Town Centre
