Stop by Stop London Trams: New Addington line – Coombe Lane

Its still a rural feel for this edition of “Stop by Stop” as we continue a journey on London Trams between New Addington and Lloyd Park.

Gravel Hill is left behind and the tram soon manages to pick up some speed on a long straight section of reserved track. We are running alongside Gravel Hill still but are quite secluded from other traffic. That is until we come to a junction with the A212 which changes from Gravel Hill to Coombe Lane just as we cross over it at a signalled crossing. Addington Hills is now to our right with the A212 having swapped sides to the left as we soon arrive at Coombe Lane.

Coombe Lane provides access to Addington Hills and the Royal Russell School (making it one of those stops to avoid at school closing time!). The stop again has platforms either side of the tracks along with the usual shelters, seating, lighting, validators, passenger information etc.

A footpath runs alongside the tramway here and is seen behind the Croydon bound platform as 2553 calls with a service to West Croydon. The semi-rural nature of the stop can be seen with trees lining the boundary.

More trees surround us as this time we look at 2541 which is also at the Croydon platform although this time we are on the other side of the tracks. The crossing in front is one of several access points into Addington Hills in the vicinity of the tramstop. The validator and help point on the platform can be seen just to the left of the rear of the tram. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior, 21st April 2025)
