The next location for “Around the World in Trams” (as it will be throughout March) will be the French city of Nice.
The current tramway in Nice – the second largest French city on the Mediterranean coast – started running in 2007 and its success has seen further extensions come since with the network now being a three line system and a fourth being under construction. Its operates on standard gauge and uses a fleet of Alstom Citadis trams, these are unique to the network and have been designed to blend it with local architecture.
The below photo features 008 at Boulevard Jean Jaures on line 1. 008 was built in 2007 as part of the initial order of 20 trams for line 1. As can be seen here, parts of the line have no overhead with the trams also fitted with batteries. The tram is in standard fleet livery but does also include advertising covering the windows.
