A recent meeting of the UKTram Centre of Excellence has heard about the latest research being conducted by the University of Huddersfield to Support Sustainable Mobility. Professor Adam Bevan attended the meeting and highlighted the work being done at the university on behalf of the industry, including a project looking at ways of standardising embedded rail.
Colin Robey, from the Centre of Excellence, said: “The presentation provided a fascinating insight into the work of the University’s Institute of Railway Research and a useful update into projects that have involved our own members.
“The meeting itself also included a roundup of potential light rail schemes from Network Rail and discussions on the range of challenges faced by our sector, particularly in relation to the retention of information and the progress being made on the development of a new apprenticeship/secondment scheme.
“Members also heard how the Tramway Design Working Group is making good progress, and a paper has now been presented to the UKTram Board to examine how we prioritise and progress this work.”
