Another random photo from the past for this edition of “Picture in Time” and its again some visitors from overseas which are featured.
Today if you think of an Oporto Coal Tram in the UK your mind will probably go towards 65 which is now at Beamish having been acquired by them from the Tramway Museum Society. But that was not the first of the distinctive Coal Trams to have come from Portugal. Two of them were purchased to provide parts for a couple of Greater Manchester tram restoration projects – Stockport 5 and Manchester 173.
62 and 70 were imported in the early 1980s and were stored at Kearsley Power Station ahead of being stripped for spare parts. Whilst there they were operated on occasions using the power station’s overhead. The below photos show the two of them on one of these occasions.
