Around the World in Trams: Nuremberg 1117 & 1005

One final photo from Nuremberg as “Around the World in Trams” continues.

And this week we have double trams in the photo with two vehicles operating on line 8 passing what was then called the Bavarian American Hotel on Bahnofstrasse. Line 8 works between Doku-Zentrum and Erlenstegen.

Closest to the camera on the left is 1005 which is an Adtranz GT6N, one of 14 built in the mid-1990s which this particular example entering service in 1995. Its joined on the other side by 1117 which is a later Adtranz GT8N. 26 of this class were introduced in 1999-2000 and 1117 was one of those to be used for the first during 1999. Since this photo was taken both trams have undergone modernisation works in Leipzig but are now back in use in Nuremberg.
