In Pictures: Blue route goes to Middlewood

The weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November was due to see work taking place on the usual Blue route to Malin Bridge. Rather than terminate Blue route services short, all services from Halfway were diverted to Middlewood instead leading to the unusual sight of trams with Halfway as the destination along Middlewood Road.

A by-product of the diversion of all Blue route trams to Middlewood was a doubling in frequency of services between Hillsborough and Middlewood which would have been very handy if Sheffield Wednesday were playing at home – except they weren’t as they were away at Bristol City! It also meant that the usual tram x is on the Yellow route, tram y is on the Blue route wasn’t strictly true as some trams swapped over routes at Middlewood.

Meadowhall so good they named it twice?! The destination display at Middlewood showing that both Yellow and Blue route trams would be departing from the stop.

116 pulls into Middlewood with destination display already changed for its return journey to Halfway.
