In Pictures: Trackwork gets underway on Supertram

Major rail replacement works are now underway on Sheffield’s Supertram network which sees no trams running beyond Shalesmoor between 24th July and 6th August. The work is taking place in four phases during this period with the first section being attended to being on Middlewood Road between Dixon Road and Keyworth Road. Stuart Cooke with the photos.

This short section is located between the Hillsborough Park and Leppings Lane tramstop and is just opposite the bowling green at Hillsborough Park. The work is seeing track replacement on both lines with contractors from VolkerRail being employed to undertake this work. Work got underway on Monday 24th July and the next phase of works was due to start on Thursday 27th July in the Hillsborough area.

The citybound track was being attended to when these photos were taken. Here the new rails are being put into position.

The new rail is being prepared alongside the track formation and will soon be put into position.
