Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Chorlton tramstop

We continue our journey along Manchester Metrolink’s South Manchester line in this edition of “Then & Now” looking at how things were before and after the trams arrived.

In these images we take a look at Chorlton tramstop which is located by the former Chorlton-cum-Hardy Railway Station which had closed in 1967 and was then demolished and replaced with a supermarket and car park.

This first photograph we see the initial stages of construction with the trackbed being cleared to allow the Metrolink tracks to be installed. This was 18th March 2009.

On 11th August 2011 (just over a month after the start of services) we are back at Chorlton as 3005 arrives heading for Victoria. The Shell petrol station just seen in the corner of the first image is seen more clearly here now and allows us to position ourselves between the two images. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
