Around the World in Trams: Rome 2227

Today’s “Around the World in Trams” continues our look at trams in Rome in 1964.

This photo shows 2227 at Termini station in July 1964. The tram is working on route 5 and looking inside the tram it appears that it is a very popular working with standing room only on board. 2227 is a MRS type 3 tram which was built new for Rome in 1934. 133 of the class were built between 1927 and 1934 and the last were withdrawn from frontline service in 2003, although some examples remain preserved to this day.
