The East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville is probably currently home to the biggest heritage tram infrastructure project – the construction of a new tram depot and eventual extension to the tramway. Work on the new tram depot started at the end of June 2022 and now into October and excellent progress is being made on the structure.
The tram depot is being built on recently acquired land adjacent to the long-standing museum site and will provide accommodation for the ever increasing tram fleet. They currently have seven trams on site with Glasgow 488 being restored off site for eventual use at the museum as well. With the current depot pretty much at capacity the extra storage space provided by this depot will be much appreciated and would allow for further trams to be kept at the museum in the future.
Last time we saw progress on the tram depot (mid-September 2022) the upright supports and roof trusses had been installed and now, a further 4 weeks later, the roof is being put into place with the end and side sheeting also being installed to provide a full structure. Work will still be required on the floor and trackwork but the structure is making good progress ahead of it being welcome its first guests.

If they have not already done so, I am hoping that the museum will be able to acquire the entire field beyond the fence line.
