More disruption on Metrolink

After the major power failure on Metrolink on Wednesday 9th June, it hasn’t been completely plain sailing for the network since with both the Eccles line and now the Altrincham line seeing disruption.

On the Eccles line there was a complete service suspension during the evening of Wednesday 9th June caused by overhead line issues. This came on the same day that all lines had been suspended during the morning and although both were down to overhead power issues its not thought that the two were connected (with the issue earlier in the day being down to a fire close to Victoria). No trams were able to run to Eccles for a couple of hours during the evening with usual ticket acceptance on local buses in place.

Then Friday 11th June and a signalling problem on the Altrincham line led to a reduced frequency service being initiated. Instead of the usual 10 minute service (during most of the day) trams are only running every 20 minutes with this change expected to last throughout the weekend. Again, there is ticket acceptance on local buses (the number 11, 245 and 263 services) and Northern Rail services between Manchester City Centre and Altrincham/Navigation Road.
