Picture in Time: Blackpool Brush 631

This time our Blackpool “Picture in Time” image comes from the first year of millennium (or last of the previous one I guess, depending on your point of view!) as we take a look at Brush Car 631.

This photo was taken from the top deck of another tram as 631 has just entered Lord Street in Fleetwood having just departed from Ash Street, the redeveloped area seen behind the tram. At this time the shops along the side of the road seem to be much more occupied than they are in 2020 with a bakery and newsagent the most obvious businesses seen here. This was on 9th September 2000.

631 had enjoyed a major overhaul in the mid 1990s which saw it receive a number of modern innovations including updated front bumpers and lifeguard as well as low voltage equipment which was housed in the trolley tower as seen here with its enclosed condition. 631 remained in service all the way until the end of the 2011 season and has since passed into the heritage fleet.
