Lockdown Walks: Manchester Metrolink 3061

We “change it up” again for this latest “Lockdown Walk” as we head to Manchester for the first time with the first of a series of photos from Metrolink around Chorlton.

For a system which was carrying over 41 million journeys per annum before the COVID-19 outbreak, the fall in passenger numbers on Manchester Metrolink has been significant leading to timetable changes, calls for government financial support and changes to the standard operating practice. To allow for maximum social distancing Metrolink have been running double units where possible whilst enhanced cleaning has also been taking place across the network both on trams and at stops.

This image shows one of those double trams led by M5000 3061 as it passes under Brantingham Road bridge having just departed from Chorlton with a service heading to Rochdale. With reduced services running the intermediate Shaw & Crompton is not currently in operation. (Photograph by Keith Chadbourne, 31st May 2020)
