A million contactless journeys made on Metrolink

Over one million journeys have been made on Manchester Metrolink using contactless payment, just four months after it became possible. The landmark was reached over the weekend of 16th/17th November, just four months and a day since it was launched on 15th July.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, said: “I’m pleased that Greater Manchester residents and our many visitors are taking advantage of contactless payments on Metrolink. It’s making tram travel easier, and opening up our region to jobs, leisure, skills and education opportunities. This is another step on our way to the integrated, London-style transport system we want to see here.”

Contactless payments can now be made for travel on Metrolink without the need to purchase a paper ticket. All passengers have to do is touch in when they start their journey and touch out after alighting from the tram with daily caps applied, as long as you do remember to touch in and out!
