In Pictures: Progress continues on Supertram trackworks

Rapid progress continues to be made on the replacement of track along Middlewood Road on the Stagecoach Supertram network in Sheffield. This is just phase one of the 2019 programme of works and is scheduled to continue until Sunday 2nd June with no trams able to run beyond Hillsborough to Malin Bridge or Middlewood.

The works have now moved further along the tramway and are in the section of outbound track from Hillsborough Park tramstop up to and including the junction with Tamplin Road. The bus stop here is still in use and the worksite is complicated by three cul-de-sac’s which need access along with a busy shopping area with daily deliveries.

In the first view of this latest update we see new track in situ in the foreground with the ducts in the distance waiting for the installation of the new metal.

Another view looking along the road with the new rails just waiting to be put into place.

Rails waiting to be installed.

In this view we can see some track laid above the groove it will eventually be put in.

As described in the text there are several access issues across this worksite and a tanker demonstrates this nicely for us there. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 16th May 2019)
