For the second time in this series we concentrate on the trailers performing a valuable service to MER.
The oldest of the operational trailers on the Manx Electric Railway is 51. Built in 1893 for the opening of the line this trailer has carried no fewer than four different numbers over the last 125 years although for the majority of time has been known as 51. It is caught on camera here at Derby Castle with 1 for company on 7th September.
Darkness is falling as trailer 42 waits with motor 2 at Derby Castle ready to return to the sheds. 42, built in 1903, returned to service in 2018 following 10 years out of use. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior)
