Supertram gets ready for next stage of rail replacement

The major project to replace life expired rail on Stagecoach Supertram is continuing with details of Area 4 now fully revealed. This phase of work will take place between 25th August and 9th September with services on both the Blue and Purple lines affected with buses running instead.

The work in this period will be centred on Gleadless Townend with that stop being the limit of services from the direction of the city centre for both the Blue and Purple routes. The Blue route will continue to operate at usual frequencies from Malin Bridge as far as Gleadless Townend whilst for the Purple route a service will only be offered on Sundays from Meadowhall to Gleadless Townend. Replacement buses will run to cover the affected sections.

Meanwhile Area 3 – on the Purple route beyond Gleadless Townend – continues to see work with this due to be completed by the end of Sunday 19th August leaving five days where a normal service will operate across the whole of the Supertram network. There is scheduled to be one further closure between Dontesk Way and Halfway from 10th September to 21st September.
