Free entry to Crich this winter – but no tram rides!

Crich Tramway Village have announced that free admission to some parts of the site will be offered every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between November 6th and December 13th this year. Opening hours are 10:30am to 3:30pm. However, sadly no trams will be operating and indeed the main attractions seem to be a series of winter craft workshops!

The Crich Tramway Village website states that, on these special days, some parts of the site will be closed to visitors but unfortunately no information is provided on what will be open and what will not. The only confirmation is that the Tea Rooms will be open for business as usual. Instead, the focus seems to be on some special craft workshops such as willow weaving, jewellery making and painting on acetate. There will, however, be additional charges for these courses starting from £5. The Museum will also be offering activities for younger visitors every Thursday morning, with the new ‘Tramway Tots’ sessions priced at £2.

Presumably the idea of the free admission scheme is to give local people a taste of what is on offer at the Museum, in the hope that they will then return during the main season when trams are running and more of the normal attractions are open. Disapointingly, it seems that there will be very little to entertain tram enthusiasts, but hopefully this innovation will encourage more people to pay a visit and perhaps come back again to see the site at its best next year.
