Picture in Time: Midland Metro 08

In today’s Picture in Time we are once again in the West Midlands for a view from Midland Metro with T69 08 the feature vehicle.

08 was delivered to Wednesbury Depot on 12th August 1998 (unsurprisingly the eighth of the trams to be delivered to the West Midlands from Italy). Entering service soon after the opening of the line at the end of May 1999 08 soon settled into its regular operating life and throughout its career it retained the original Red, Purple, Yellow, Grey, Green livery. It received the name Joseph Chamberlain on 6th April 2005. 08 survived in service longer than most with its last recorded use being on 1st July 2015 (albeit briefly). It was then stored at Wednesbury Depot until 1st March 2016 when it took a trip on the back of a low loader to Long Marston for further storage where it remains today.

This image shows 08 running along the central reservation on Bilston Road as it heads away from The Royal with a service from Wolverhampton St George’s to Birmingham Snow Hill on 16th March 2001.
