NET delays after protest

Nottingham Express Transit services were severely delayed on Friday 5th August after a group of protestors blocked the tram tracks in the city centre causing the service to initially be suspended between Royal Centre and Old Market Square and then later as far as Nottingham Station. The situation continued to change as the morning progressed and eventually the Phoenix Park route was amended so trams were only running as far as Highbury Vale. The protestors laid on the tracks protesting under the Black Lives Matter banner and were also apparently planning to “shutdown Nottingham”. The protestors – four of whom have since been charged by the Police – were removed later in the morning with tram services resuming from 1115.

However worthy the cause might be, any group that believes it is right and conducts disruptive activities actually disregards the rights of others to go about their lawful business without hindrance. All lives matter.

Very well said. I’m glad to note that charges have been brought, although it remains to be seen whether the culprits receive anything more than a ‘slap on the wrist’.

I was on the tram that day. Horrific journey, I don’t think that protesting about the situation will not get them anywhere. When I found out what had happened, I was so angry because I live in Nottingham and all the roads and buses were at a complete standstill!

    ANGER!!!!!!!!!
