Adverts on the way for Edinburgh?

It’s a story we’ve run before but it does now appear that adverts are set to appear on Edinburgh Trams in the future with JC Decaux starting a campaign to find companies who want to advertise on the 27 strong fleet of trams. A statement has recently been posted on networking site Linkedin starting the race to see just which company will have the historic first advert on a tram in the Scottish capital.

It has always been presumed that adverts would become a regular sight on Edinburgh Trams and stories from well over a year ago were suggesting that 2015 would be the year to see the first non uniform livery running on the line between the Airport and York Place. Indeed two trams – 262 and 269 – did not receive the full livery until last year with the expectation being that they were being held back for the first adverts but for whatever reason this never transpired and all 27 CAF built trams have continued to operate in the standard fleet livery.

The post added to Linkedin states: “After much anticipation I am absolutely ecstatic to announce that we are open for business on taking your brand to the Edinburgh masses through tram advertising. Be big, be bold, be seen, be the most talked about brand in town. Be the first ever brand to advertise on the Edinburgh Trams. To get on board, get in touch.”

No further details are known of whether this will be a full vinyl wrap advert or just roof level adverts but it does seem that the next few months may see a splash of colour in Edinburgh.

* This seems as good as place as any to apologise for the lack of news updates over the past week or so. Alas, as always is the case, this time of year is a busy period for me at work and coupled with a 3 day week last week it meant British Trams Online updates had to fall by the wayside a bit. Hopefully things will be a bit calmer this week and this news story will be the first of several to be added over the next few days.

Wonder if midland metro will do adverts

  2. John Gilbert says:

Oh no, no, no! Please not.
Well if these wretched adverts have to appear – notice that they never seem to on buses – please don’t cover the WINDOWS as has happened in Nottingham and elsewhere. Passengers want to see out! (Or don’t the city fathers of Edinburgh think that there is anything to see through the windows of a tram in their city?)

    • Raymond Luxury-Yacht says:

What is everyone’s hang-up with contravision adverts over the windows? You can still see out reasonably well, and it makes the tramway more viable financially, so what is the problem?
