Steve, some good photo’s of Victoria.Looking at the new track layout it will certainly put T.M.S to the test once the 2CC opens.
Thought Network rail would have extended the roof a bit further, not only to cover the rear unit on a metrolink double unit, but also for platform 1&2 on the heavy rail side.Nice to see the platform “A” sign still there on the wall.Do they intend to remove it or is it just an oversight by the contractors.
I would imagine removal of the ‘A’ was probably not part of the contract, and not worth the time and expense of removal as it no longer relates to anything.
Thanks tram man. I can’t say I know whether the platform A sign will stay or whether its an oversight. As for the roof I think it was a case of covering the same area as the remaining part of the old roof. TfGM have paid for the shelters that extend cover over the Metrolink platforms.
It looks like there are 3 tracks through the station, how is that going to work? I assumed there would be 4! In and out bound piccadily traffic, in and out bound second city crossing traffic.
Apparently there are still 2 platforms for through services with a third one for terminating services or stabling trams. I also assumed there would be 4 through platforms, but when you think about it that would be pointless considering that there is still only a 2 track layout leaving Victoria towards Smedley and Rochdale and Bury trams have to share. Especially considering that with Victoria now under TMS and most services formed of single M5000s it is possible for 2 services to be in a platform together. The 3rd platform will obviously come into its own if there is a service being delayed for any reason, which has happened in the past.
The real justification for the centre line is to accommodate Airport services which will be extended to Victoria once 2CC opens fully.
