20 Photos of... Manchester Metrolink T68s |
The latest subject of our "20 Photos of..." series is the Manchester Metrolink T68s - the first modern trams to operate in public service within the UK. 26 of these trams were built for the opening of the Metrolink network which initially saw the conversion of railway lines to tram operation out to Altrincham and Bury along with on-street running in the city centre and into Piccadilly Station undercroft. Later came an extension to Eccles and some of the T68s would also be able to operate onto that line following modifications.
As there were 26 T68s and this collection is titled "20 Photos of..." obviously not all 26 feature but we see a variety of the class in action (mainly in Manchester City Centre). Most are in the standard fleet livery of the time but we do also meet up with 1003 which received advertising and the M5000 livery towards the end of its career. |
Photographer: Gareth Prior Photographs were taken between Wednesday 7th September 2005 and Friday 19th July 2013. |
