| Around the World in Trams: Seashore Trolley Museum - October 2025 |
|
In this set of photos we feature images from the Seashore Trolley Museum, Kennebunkport, Maine. This is said to be the world's first and largest museum of mass transit vehicles, and the majority of the collection are trolley cars, or trams as we'd know them in the UK. Although much of the focus is on vehicles from the USA, it also includes a eclectic selection from around the world - and that includes four "ex-pats" from the UK.
It is those four that is the main feature of this collection of photos. All the trams were exported in the 1950s/1960s and whilst Blackpool 144 has seen service at times during its 60-odd years in the US the other three (Glasgow 1274, Leeds 526 and Liverpool 293) have not. They now all remain stored in one of the car barns at the museum. As well as featuring the trams from the UK we also take a look at a few of the other (more local) members of the collection, including some running in service. On the day of the photographer's visit to the museum the staff and volunteers at the museum could not have been more helpful allowing him to see the UK trams up close. If anyone is ever in the area they are recommended to go along to the museum as you will be welcomed with open arms to see exactly what they have to offer! * Full details of the museum - including location and opening times - can be found on their website at https://trolleymuseum.org/. |
