Around the World in Trams: Seashore Trolley Museum - October 2025

With Glasgow 1274 seen at the back of this shot we see another tram from Europe in the shape of Rome 279 at the front of this image. 279 was one of 91 trams built between 1911 and 1914 for the Rome system, and was withdrawn in the 1950s. It was shipped to Seashore in 1960 and underwent some restoration work in 1964/5. It is considered to be in operational condition but has only even been operated on a limited basis owing to its tiny wheel flanges and the fact the gauge in Rome was 10mm wider than standard gauge used at Seashore.
