Away from the extension but a new development nonetheless is the installation of new validators on the platforms. There will be two new ones for each old one and as well as being able to validate existing smart cards they will also allow passengers to pay using a single touch of their credit or debit card for a single journey. If the same card is used several times during the day a single journey charge will be added each time with a cap of a day ticket charge no matter how many additional journeys are made. This will bring the tram into line with Lothian Buses which uses the same system on all its city buses. (All Photographs by John Hampton)
