Regular test running over the new cross-city route has commenced in Dublin. Here Luas tram 3020 heads north along O’Connell Street where trams have been absent for over 68 years. The original tramway closed in1949. In the background is the base of the Spire, a metal sculpture which stands in the same place as previously occupied by the Nelson Pillar. This was the location of the main city terminus for the first generation trams and boasted a six track layout.
