    If you look at the site it becomes clear that the proximity of the River Don and the M1 Tinsley Viaduct rather restricts the available alignment. There had been an earlier proposal to site the junction before Meadowbank South stop and build a separate tram train platform and then cross the river alongside the Tinsley railway line on the existing bridge but there were doubts about the suitability of the bridge for double track without major expenditure. As constructed there is no need for a new tram train crossing of the river and the time penalty imposed by the 2 sharp curves will be minimal. It may not be ideal but often a practical compromise is what is required.
