Gallery 947: Around the World in Trams Special - Hiroshima Electric Railway |
As we continue looking at trams from across the world we visit Hiroshima in Japan. This is the longest and most used tram network in Japan with six tram lines running using over 270 trams. This includes two trams that survived the 1945 atomic bomb and have since been restored back to operational condition. The network is well used not only by locals but also by tourists who find it a good way to see the attractions in the city such as the Hiroshima Peace Park, Hiroshima Castle and many museums. Passengers board the trams in the centre and alight from either the front or rear.
In this collection we take a look at the varied types of tram which were running on the network during a visit in 1999. * To find out more about the trams in Hiroshima you can visit https://www.japanvisitor.com/japan-transport/hiroshima-trams. |
