Gallery 917: Around the World in Trams Special - New York Museum of Transportation

One of two operational trolleys at the museum is Trans Mississippi Trolley 168 which arrived in 1996 having seen its former line closed. Originally built in 1929 as Philadelphia and Western Railroad 68 as a centre entrance interurban car it was rebuilt in 1931 as a one man operated car with high level end entrances receiving the number 168. Sold in 1991 to the Trans Mississippi Trolley in Keokuk, Iowa it was pressed into service on a tourist trolley service on the top of a dam in the Mississippi River but this operation was to last only five years and it would then move to the New York Museum of Transportation. It retains the colours it wore in Iowa.
