Gallery 867: Picture in Time Special - Manchester Metrolink 6th September 2006

We head back some 14 years years for this archive collection of photos taken on Manchester Metrolink in a two hour visit on 6th September 2006. At this time my one and only trip to Manchester each year was usually a day trip when in Blackpool and I always seemed to be trying to fit something else in whilst there (I'm not sure what that "something else" was in 2006 though!) so the number of locations used was hardly vast, indeed these photos all come from one of two locations - Shudehill and St Peter's Square. The main thing to notice in these shots is the complete lack of double units captured on camera and the uniformity of the fleet with the then standard fleet colours of white and aquamarine carried on all trams. This was a Metrolink of just three lines - Altrincham, Bury and Eccles (plus the Piccadilly spur of course) with the major expansion still to come - but it was already 14 years old and firmly established as a crucial part of Greater Manchester's public transport offering. So, sit back, relax and take a look at Metrolink in 2006. Photographer: Gareth Prior
