Over the weekend of 13th and 14th September 2014 the Crich Tramway Village celebrated 50 years since the first electric tram operated at the Museum with a two day spectacular event: Electric 50. For the first time ever a tram from another Museum visited Crich with Newcastle 114 on loan from Beamish and this was joined by Blackpool & Fleetwood 40 (which although part of the national collection is on long term loan to Blackpool) and Blackpool 711 as well as the preservation debut of Blackpool 762 alongside a further 21 trams in passenger service over the course of the weekend. This collection of photos shows images from the first day of the event (for day two you want Gallery 485) which started off with a two photo opportunities as the two Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramroad trams and two Newcastle trams were displayed together before an intensive tram service got underway. The morning also saw the launch of Blackpool 762 into service (unfortunately only briefly due to a fault discovered at the end of its maiden voyage) before the service was suspended over lunchtime to allow a 25 tram cavalcade to be formed. This cavalcade did take a long time to form but no-one can deny how spectacular it looked with the trams running in order of operation at Crich led by Blackpool & Fleetwood 2 with Blackpool 762 bringing up the rear. The day also saw two Works Cars out on the mainline in the afternoon joining in the post-cavalcade service which continued until 1800 when the two Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramroad cars ran the final service of the day.
Photographs in this collection were taken by David Bosher, Steve Kemp & Gareth Prior
