Edinburgh Trams - Trams to Newhaven opens June 2023

25th May was the day when it was confirmed just when the Trams to Newhaven extension would open (7th June) and it was a fine sunny day in celebration! This was still the period of timetable testing when trams would run on the extension out of service with passengers having to still alight at St Andrew Square and then watch as their tram carried on! 259 is captured on that day running bound for the city between the Ocean Terminal and Port of Leith stops. Its just crossing the entrance to the former Victoria Dock of 1852 (out of view to the left) whilst on the right we see the Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel "Fort Victoria". The ship is at one of the harbour berths across the shipping channel which is effectively where the Water of Leith used to meet the sea; now ships have to lock into the port via the sea lock further in the distance. Behind the tram work has started on four multi-storey apartment blocks as development in the area continues.
