Edinburgh Trams - Trams to Newhaven Driver Training April 2023

271 is seen running on a driver training run on Leith Walk at Pilrig Church and heading for the city centre. This was the site of the Pilrig muddle, up until 1923, where it was necessary for passengers to transfer from the Leith electric trams to the Edinburgh cable cars to continue their journey to central Edinburgh. Edinburgh started to electrify its tramway in 1922 and the electrification of Leith Walk was completed in 1923. The bus on the left is one of Lothian's 100 seat tri-axle Enviro400XLB Volvos on route 11 and waiting its turn to follow the tram up Leith Walk. The 11 bus route today follows much of the first generation tram route 11 to Newhaven. This photo was taken on 27th April.
