In Pictures: Construction work at Balfour Street tramstop in Edinburgh

balfour-rc

This photo at Balfour Street is looking northeast towards the Newhaven end of the line. Balfour Street (named after the family who once owned the nearby Pilrig Estate) itself is the side street on the left beyond the man in the green hi-vis jacket. The centre overhead line/lighting poles are in place beyond the stop but two remain to be erected on the platform. Once the central street lighting is switched on, the pavement lamp standards are being removed. Platform furniture is still to be installed. On the left we see the no. 16 bus to Colinton via Princes Street which is heading south along what would normally be the northbound lane. All northbound traffic is currently being diverted elsewhere.
