Gallery 955: Picture in Time Special - Heaton Park Tramway |
The Heaton Park Tramway in Manchester in the only truly preserved heritage tramway in the country with part of its line being a siding which was used to allow trams to enter Heaton Park. A large shelter was also built and this has been converted into a depot, museum and shop for use by the tramway.
Since first running heritage services in 1980, 11 electric passenger trams, 1 horse tram and a works tram (if I can count!) have operated on the line which has now been extended to a new Lakeside terminus where a second depot building has also been constructed. In addition to those trams which have run in service a number of other trams have also arrived on site with the eventual aim of restoring many of these to service. The future should see Manchester Metrolink T68s also arrive allowing the tramway to tell the complete story of tramway history in the city. In this collection we take a look at those trams which have operated on the tramway, either as a member of the home fleet or on loan, as well as those which have arrived for initial storage. |
