Gallery 883: Around the World in Trams Special - Southern California Railway Museum 1981-2002


Pacific Electric 'Blimp' 418 which is very similar to no. 314. It was one of 48 cars acquired in 1944 from the US Maritime Commission who had requisitioned them from the Southern Pacific Railway in 1941. These cars were built by the American Car and Foundry Co. and Pullman in 1911 - 13 and they ran on the Southern Pacific interurban lines in the East Bay area between Oakland - Alameda - Berkeley, these lines were closed in 1941. The cars were modernised by Pacific Electric in 1946 - 8 and were the last cars in operation when the Long Beach line closed on 8th April 1961.
