Gallery 883: Around the World in Trams Special - Southern California Railway Museum 1981-2002

An unidentified Pacific Electric 'Hollywood' car, possibly no. 637, stabled outside. There were 160 of these trams built by St. Louis Car Co. and Brill between 1922 and 1928 and they worked all over the Pacific Electric system. Their name came from their assignment to the Hollywood group of lines. In 1940-1951 many were rebuilt for one man operation and renumbered from the 600/700 series to 5050 - 5181. Often running in pairs or a train of 3 cars, 28 were sold to Argentina in 1951 where they ran until at least 1973, and 8 to the Portland Traction Company (Oregon) in 1953.
