Now we probably take for granted that there will be at least an annual enthusiast event on the Isle of Man, covering the various tramways and railways but head back to the early 1990s and the situation was different, and although there has been some events they weren't regular occurences. In 1993 with the Centenary of the first section of the Manx Electric Railway between Derby Castle and Groudle opening the chance was taken to have another celebration with the "Year of the Railways" taking place across the Isle of Man. Included in the highlights was the visit of Isle of Man Steam Railway No. 4 "Loch" to the Manx Electric Railway where it hauled two trailers for passenger trips, the advent of Tunnel Car 9 as the illuminated tram, a cavalcade through Laxey, parallel runs and lots more besides. In this "Picture in Time" special we feature images from the "Vintage Rally and Steam Gala Week" which sees trams in action on the MER, "Loch" hauling trailers 57 and 58, a Wickham railcar in action on the MER and lots more besides.
