Gallery 745: Tyne and Wear Metro Northern routes - June 2018

Bank Foot station, looking towards Airport. This station is on the former Ponteland branch of the North Eastern Railway that was an early closure to passengers in 1929 and to freight in 1967. It was partially revived for Metro services from the junction with the North Tyneside Loop at South Gosforth to Bank Foot (where there had never previously been a station) on 10th May 1981 and remained the terminus for 10 and a half years until 17th November 1991 when trains were extended further over the old Ponteland branch (but not to Ponteland itself) as far as a new station at Airport.
