Gallery 743: Tyne and Wear Metro Central - June 2018

4035 to Airport calling at Gateshead station. On the south side of the river Tyne this station, which is underground, opened on 15th November 1981 and replaced the National Rail surface station which, however, is still passed through by today's National Rail trains from Newcastle to Sunderland, Hartlepool and beyond. These tracks are now shared by Metro trains between Pelaw and Sunderland. Platform remains of the old Gateshead station are still visible.
