Gallery 714: Trams Around the World - The Electric City Trolley Museum, Scranton

The secondary car used on the demonstration trolley line is Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company 80. Built in 1932 by J G Brill Company 80 is a lightweight trolley car of the ‘Master Unit’ design. This is a double ended double truck car that rides on two Brill 89E trucks with four General Electric 301B traction motors. Originally built as Philadelphia and West Chester 80, one of the series 77 to 86. It passed to the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company as of December 19 1935 and to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority on January 29 1970 all with no change in car number. This car was retired and stored by SEPTA during 1980; it was sold to the Buckingham Valley Trolley Association that same year and to the Electric City Trolley Museum in 1999. The restoration of this car included converting it from the Pennsylvania trolley gauge (five feet, two and a half inches) to standard gauge (four feet, eight and a half inches).
