Gallery 714: Trams Around the World - The Electric City Trolley Museum, Scranton

This is a double truck ‘bullet’ aluminum construction interurban car built as Philadelphia and Western 206, part of the 200 to 209 series. These cars were built to operate from an overrunning third rail and with high platforms. It passed to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (“SEPTA”) ownership on January 29 1970 with no change in number. 206 was converted into a ‘brine’ or ‘pickle’ car circa 1990, used to deice the third rail. It was acquired by the Electric City Trolley Museum during 1995 and was placed on display outside of the museum; its lack of trolley poles and being designed to work with high platforms only preventing it from being placed into service.
