Gallery 632: Douglas Bay Horse Tramway 140th Anniversary - August 2016

The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway on the Isle of Man celebrated its 140th anniversary on Sunday 7th August with a series of special events over the weekend. Our coverage starts on Thursday 4th August with images taken of the new for 2016 Timetable P which includes a three tram service for most of the day with services every 15 minutes. Following photos of this timetable for two days we turn our attention to the first day of the celebratory weekend - Saturday 6th August - where the normal service ran again followed by a special evening service until 2100. And then onto anniversary day itself with the first highlight of the day being the operation of double decker no. 18 using two horses on two round trips. As the day progressed trams were displayed outside of the depot and there was also the chance to see inside the depot with views of some of the withdrawn trams. The centrepiece of the weekend was a Cavalcade which left Derby Castle at 1630 and included nine trams, including a surprise in the form of Toastrack no. 38. The coverage then concludes on Tuesday 9th August with more images of Timetable P.

All Photographs in this collection were taken by Gareth Prior in August 2016.
