Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Tramway Museum Society the 2015 Enthusiasts' Tram Event at the Crich Tramway Village was another spectacular event with the static exhibits once again taking the limelight away from those trams in service. The day saw the return to service for one day only of Southampton 45 - the tram that started the preservation movement - whilst Liverpool 869 was returned to service but this is for a longer period following the completion of an extensive overhaul. An intensive tram service also ran throughout the day with up to 15 passenger trams out at any one time including Glasgow 812 which is being withdrawn from service awaiting its turn for overhaul. But the main highlight took place away from the mainline in the depot yard with the traditional photo opportunity. This year it was to be an open top tram line-up with four very rare trams being taken out of the Great Exhibition Hall to star: Derby 1, Douglas Head Marine Drive 1, Blackpool 4 and Hill of Howth 10. In addition Newcastle 102 made an appearance (from the Workshop where it can currently be found for a condition survey) along with four operational trams: Southampton 45, London County Council 106, London United Tramways 159 and Glasgow 1068 making an incredible nine tram line-up! This extensive collection features all of the above including many of the open top tram line-up as we try to get as many of the trams as possible in one view!
Photographs in this collection were taken by Gordon Burch, Norman Daley, Gareth Prior & Hazel Quarmby.
