| West Midlands Metro - Millennium Point extension opens |
|
Easter Sunday, 5th April 2026, saw the latest extension of the West Midlands Metro open to the public with the start of services to Millennium Point. This is the first phase of the Birmingham Eastside extension which will eventually (at least for now) go as far as High Street Deritend, but when that will be is still an unknown with it connected to HS2 works around Curzon Street.
It is a short extension which travels for less than a quarter of mile but does contain two new stops. The first is at Albert Street with an island platform, and this will be a permanent fixture. The second is a temporary terminus at Millennium Point which includes just a single platform. When the line is extended further this will be removed and trams will just smoothly carry on with their journeys. In this collection we start off with some views as trams are tested and completing driver training before we get to see the line open and passengers finally able to make their way to Millennium Point. |
Photographers: Mark Cufflin, Ken Jones & Andy Walters Photographs were taken between Thursday 5th February and Tuesday 7th April 2026. |
