Isle of Man - 20th to 26th July 2023 |
2023 is another key milestone year for transport on the Isle of Man with both the Manx Electric Railway (130 years) and the Steam Railway (150 years) celebrating big anniversaries. To commemorate both occasions the annual Summer Transport Festival was expanded to run for a full eight days with plenty going on to keep everyone busy across all of the island's railways and tramways. Indeed there was so much going on we've split the events (plus a bit of what happened before and after!) into two separate galleries with this first part concentrating on the period between 20th and 26th July.
We start things off on Thursday 20th July with some general shots on both the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway and the Manx Electric Railway before its more "normal" Isle of Man transporation views for the next couple of days. The main event then gets underway from Sunday 23rd July which started with a traditional Parallel Run on the MER. Highlights on the MER during the first four days of the festival included Works Car 34 being used to haul trailers (including two trailers on one days), several parallel runs and tours of Derby Castle Shed and Yard. Meanwhile, the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway was not to be left out with a good variety of different trams being used on the truncated service. * A full review of the events can be read in David Mee's Diary. |
