| Edinburgh Trams - Trams to Newhaven Driver Training April 2023 |
![]() Sunday 23rd April was another day of driver training and of course 258 was out again! Its seen here running citybound on Leith Walk as it passes The Red Sandstone which has recenrly undergone a refurbishment. The developer had wanted to demolish it and build student flats but the Council eventually rejected this proposal after strong local opposition. The Red Sandstone was erected by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in the mid 1930s as their Leith Walk goods yard offices (first floor). The depot was later BR’s Leith Walk West goods depot. Shops are gradually returning to the ground floor. The block of flats in the distance is Kirkgate House at the Foot of the Walk. At this point, citybound traffic and trams share one single lane and on the right there is a cycle lane which is yet to be officially opened. Photograph by Roy Calderwood |
